Order of Service

  • We begin with singing from our hymnal
  • Followed by short readings from the Bible
  • After which we pray the Lord’s Prayer with its spiritual interpretation from the Christian Science text book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (below)
  • Then we sing another hymn
  • Followed by a few announcements regarding currents activities
  • A solo video presentation is played which usually relates to the subject of our Weekly Bible Lesson
  • The Weekly Bible Lesson, which serves as a sermon, is then read from Science and Health by the First Reader and the Bible is read by the Second Reader
  • A collection is taken, which is voluntary
  • The service is closed with a hymn, reading the Scientific Statement of Being (below), correlative scripture from I John 3:1-3 (below), and a benediction
Many come early to chat, and stay after the service to greet other members and visitors. You are always welcome! Please know you will never be pressured to join the group, or to take up the study of Christian Science.

The Lord’s Prayer with its Spiritual Interpretation

Our Father which art in heaven,
     Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,
Hallowed be Thy name.
     Adorable One.
Thy kingdom come.
     Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
     Enable us to know, — as in heaven, so on earth, — God is omnipotent, supreme.
Give us this day our daily bread;
     Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections;
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
     And Love is reflected in love;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil;
     And God leadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
      For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All.

Scientific Statement of Being

There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.

Correlative Scripture

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:  therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be;  but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Rather than the traditional personality of a pastor or minister who prepares and delivers a sermon, the impersonal "pastor" for Christian Science branch churches worldwide is two books: The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

The Sunday sermon (called the Weekly Bible Lesson) is the same throughout the world and read by two readers. Readings from Science and Health offers correlative passages to readings from the Bible, thus "key to the scriptures". For the Wednesday evening meeting, a short selection on a particular subject from both books is prepared and read by one of our readers. The passages are delivered without comment or further explanation as instructed in our Church Manual.
As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our guide to eternal Life.

Bible Resources

Since the Bible is a key resource for any student of Christian Science, many find it useful to refer to the following websites to expand their understanding of Bible citations. Cross references to Bible translations other than the King James Version can provide insights for certain passages, and scholarly explanations of Bible history can provide context  and deeper meaning to Bible stories.
